I am interested in diffusion of responsibility.  It is the belief that responsibility for intervening is shared, or diffused, among those present.  The more people who are present in an emergency, the less personally responsible each individual feels - and therefore the less help he or she provides.  (American Psychological Association, 2020)

It reminds me that we learnt that social psychologists have discovered two primary information-processing routes to persuasion: central route and peripheral route processing.  Central route processing occurs when the recipient thoughtfully considers the issues and arguments involved in persuasion.  In central route processing, people are swayed in their judgments by the logic, merit, and strength of arguments.  (American Psychological Association, 2020)

In contrast, peripheral route processing occurs when people are persuaded on the basis of factors unrelated to the nature or quality  of the content of a persuasive message.  Instead, factors that are irrelevant or extraneous to the issue, such as who is providing the message how long the arguments are or the emotional appeal of the arguments influence them.  (American Psychological Association, 2020)

When someone walking on the street asks for help, this is not a important issue that needs strangers to think about it logically, so they will make the decision under peripheral route processing.  As a result, the other strangers' behavior will affect his or her final decision largely.  This is why the more people who are present in an emergency, the less personally responsible each individual feels and therefore the less help he or she provides.  They just wait for others' feedback so that they can make their own choice depending on it.  (American Psychological Association, 1968)

First Memory

My first memory is when I was very young. At that time, I should learn to walk again. I tried to get up and walk on the floor of my house, and then my grandmother and grandfather squatted in front of me.

I remember their hands holding my toy was encouraging me to come to them. I staggered forward. This scene did not happen in my current home, it seemed to be in my hometown.

I asked my mother later and told her. With this memory of mine, my mother was very surprised because this incident really happened when I was very young.
