Helping Others: The Brighter Side of Human Nature

One topic of social psychology that interests me is “Helping Others: The Brighter Side of Human Nature.”  This interests me because my passion has always been to help people. (American Psychological Association, 2020)

The goal of psychology is to help people, and that’s why I like this topic as well.  Even if you’re doing research, or you’re on the front lines helping patients based on research, you’re still helping people.  This is the basis of psychology.  (American Psychological Association, 2020)

Social psychology could shed light on this because of the theory of diffusion of responsibility. Some people (including myself) take on the responsibility of giving advice no matter if it’s wanted or unwanted. It’s just a psychologist's intuition to my knowledge. This is because we want to help people! (American Psychological Association, 2020)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but people shouldn’t be in the psychology field or the medical field if they only want to benefit themselves. Let’s say someone is feeling depressed because their family is not respecting them. We should use the Diffusion of Responsibility to help them to ensure that they are at their best! This is how “Helping Others: The Brighter Side of Human Nature” helps social psychology. (American Psychological Association, 2020)
